Ways to tie a scarf

Aquí hay un vídeo de 25 formas diferentes de como atar una bufanda, está increíble! Yo siempre ando buscando formas de atarlas de manera distinta y luego no recuerdo como atar aquella que alguna vez me gustó...

Acerca del cuello/bufanda/estola creo que he decidido que la lana quiere ser calcetines, estoy considerando que hacer. Por un lado me serviría un tejido que no me tuviera que concentrar demasiado (i.e. calcetines) y por otro lado necesito una bufanda, no se que hacer!!

About the cowl/scarf/stole I was going to knit, I've decided that the yarn want to be a pair of socks, and now I'm thinking what should I do. In one hand it would be nice to have knitting which don't need too much focus (socks!), in the other, I need a scarf, I really don't know what to do!

Nothing

Hoy no tengo nada nuevo que contar, sólo que ha estado lloviendo todo el día y que el aire está frío.

He estado sentada a la compu gran parte del día, tratando de trabajar.

Espero que mañana salga el sol, al menos por un par de horas.


I have nothing to tell, it's been cold and it has been raining all day.


I've been most of the day here at the computer trying to work.


Hopefully tomorrow the sun will shine at least for a couple of hours.

Moleskine

Tengo que admitir que soy bastante fan de la marca de libretas Moleskine. Tengo una agenda, una libreta de Barcelona, un mini libro de direcciones, un par de mini cuadernos y hoy al entrar a una tienda en dónde prácticamente tienen la línea completa no me pude resistir y me compré un juego de cuadernos!

I have to admit that I'm a fan of Moleskine. I have a planner, a Barcelona notebook, a mini address book, a couple of mini notebooks and today I enter a store that practically had all the line so I had to buy a set of notebooks!

Ahora estoy pensando en que agenda me voy a comprar para el año que entra! Estoy entre una miniatura de colores que tiene una página por día y una un poco más grande que tiene dos páginas por semana, decisiones, decisiones...

And now I'm thinking which planner I'm going to buy for next year, my options are a mini planner that has one page per day or one a little bigger that has two pages per week...

A day at the office

Hoy estuve tooodo el día en la oficina, y juntando el hecho de que estuvo lloviendo todo el día y hubo dos seminarios, la única foto que tomé es esta:

Today I was all day at the office, and between two meetings and the rain, the only picture I could take was this one:

Mi escritorio, My desk

Es el escritorio qué estoy utilizando en la oficina, cómo podrán ver tengo un vejestorio ahí ocupando espacio nomás, pero bueno. Mi punto es que si algún día entran a una oficina/biblioteca y ven un lugar hecho ligeramente un desastre y colorido, pueden apostar a que estoy yo ahí sentada. Antes intentaba reprimirlo, pero a esta altura sólo trato de que no sea tan grande el desastre.

It's my desk at the office and as you can see I have a ancient monitor there occupying space. The point is that if you ever see a desk that is a bit of a mess and is colorful, it's a safe bet that I'm there. I used to try and have a more respectable space, but these days I just try not to have a BIG mess.

Y bueno, después de que tomé esta foto arreglé un poquito antes de que llegara mi jefe que se sienta atrás de mí, pero tengo que admitir que probablemente no hice un muy buen trabajo. Y luego pa'acabarla estaba yo solita con los audífonos escuchando un cover de Mala Vida (original de Mano Negra) cantado por Gogol Bordello, medio bailando (en mi silla, tampoco fue tan grave) y zaz! que entra el jefe...

After I took the picture I did fix a little the desk, but I have to admit that maybe I didn't do a good job of it. And then I was alone in the office listening (with the headphones on) to a cover of  Mala Vida (a Mano Negra original) by Gogol Bordello , and I was dancing a little in my chair, and in that precise moment my boss enter the office...

Working

Hoy ha sido un largo día, cansado, me la pasé leyendo artículos en la oficina...

He decidido que tal vez teja algo como tipo estola? con un poco de calado? Tengo 400 m de estambre así que no puede ser algo muy grande. Creo que no soy tan bueno en el tejido utilitario, así que si al menos me divierte el tejido (hoyos en la tela!) tal vez no me tarde tanto y en todo caso no lo voy a padecer. Así que si alguien conoce una estola linda de patrón gratis o una puntada calada se los agradeceré.

Today is been a long day, I spent virtually all day reading papers at the office...


I've been thinking that maybe I'll knit a stole (I have 400m of yarn, so not a big stole), at least in that way I'll have fun while knitting it and in the end it will be what I need. If anyone knows a pretty free pattern or a pretty stitch it's welcome!

Cowl fail

Me creerían que después de más de un año sin postear voy a intentar poner un post diario?? Aprovechando que hay muchos blogs por ahí que van a postear diario por el mes de NOviembre, lo voy a intentar, (aunque sea una foto!), veremos que tan lejos llego :)

After a year of not posting I'm going to try and post daily,  I'm going to use the momentum on the blogger community,  let's see how far I go...

Ok, hoy sólo me voy a sincerar y decir: Odio tejer bufandas. Sólo he tejido dos, en la primera me tardé 4 meses, era para mi madre y me tuve que obligar a tejerla un poco más larga, originalmente era casi como un cuellito. En la segunda me tardé 6 meses pero me gustaba como iba quedando, la lana (noro!) y era un regalo así que la seguí tejiendo. Alguien me quiere explicar porqué pensé que iba a poder tejer un cuellito largo rápido?

Ok, so today I just want to say that I really, really suck at knitting scarves, I've knit 2. The first one took me 4 months, and it was for my mother and I actually force myself to knit it long instead of almost do it cowl lenght, the other one took me 6 months but I liked the result, the yarn (noro!) and it was a gift so I knit. Why did I tought that I could knit one quickly now? I have no idea.

Ya se que un cuello largo no es una bufanda pero aún así, he tejido 12 vueltas y ya no lo tolero. Así que lo voy a deshacer, doblar la lana (al fin que tengo dos madejas) y tejer un cuello más grueso y corto. En realidad preferiría tejer calcetines con esta lana pero me urge el cuellito así que no tengo muchas opciones que digamos...

I mean, it's not a scarf, is a long cowl but even so, I've knit 12 rows and I hate to knit it, so I'm going to rip it, and double the yarn (I have 2 skeins) and knit a shorter cowl. I really would prefer to knit socks with the yarn but I need a cowl so cowl it is...

Ofrenda 2008

El  Pan de Muerto  es un pan tradicional del centro de México que se hace para las festividades del día de Muerto y de todos los Inocentes (1 y 2 de noviembre) es un pan muy sencillo que debe saber más que nada a mantequilla y un poco de naranja y normalmente está espolvoreado con azúcar. Se dice que es de Muerto porque tiene decoraciones en forma de huesitos (la mejor parte del pan en mi opinión).

It's a bread that is only available for the Dia de Muertos date and it's a very simple bread, it should taste only to butter with an orange hint and usually is dusted with sugar. It's called de Muerto (of the Dead) because it has little bread bones on top (my favourite part!) 

Día de Muertos / Day of the Dead

La ofrenda de Día de Muertos es una tradición que nunca he dejado de cumplir. No hay un año en el que yo recuerde que no hay ofrenda, aunque sea una calaverita con una vela pero siempre hemos puesto en mi casa.

At home we've always made an ofrenda for Day of the Dead, it's a tradition that we've never forget and we usually put pictures of our deceased, but even if we don't, we've always put something out even if it's only a calaverita and a candle.

La semana pasada fui a una tienda "latinoamericana" para ver si conseguía piloncillo y ya no tenían! Que les llega hasta mañana, así que mi plan de hacer dulce de camote o de calabaza para mi micro ofrenda se cayó. Y cómo también olvidé la calaverita de azúcar que había comprado para traerme, pues mi ofrenda está totalmente reducida.

Last week I tried to buy piloncillo so I could make pumpkin or sweet potato candy, traditional in this date, but on the latinoamerican store I went they were out of piloncillo, so no cooking for me. Also, I forgot the calaverita I bought to bring here for today so my ofrenda is very small.

Para compensar compré un par de Panellets, un dulce de mazapán que se hace acá para las fiestas de Todos los Santos (y creo que para Navidad también), y junto con un pedazo de chocolate, agua, sal, azúcar y un par de velitas que me regalaron aquí (son caras las velas! y no necesito 50!), pues les presento mi micro ofrenda.

Just to compensate, I bought a couple of Panellets, a marzipan sweet that it's for All Saints, and together with some chocolate, water, salt, sugar and a couple of candles, they are my little ofrenda.

Hoy extraño mucho mi casa, la ofrenda, la comida, todo. Ahí se comen un pan de muerto con chocolate caliente a mi salud, va?
